Travel Within the U.S.

When traveling in the U.S. and outside of the Hartford area, you should always carry your original immigration documents, including a valid passport and visa documents (Form I-20 or DS-2019) for identification purposes.

You may be stopped and asked for identification at the discretion of government agents.  When traveling inside the U.S. by air, please always carry the same immigration documents and follow the guidelines set by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  It is important to check the TSA's website before traveling each time since guidelines and regulations may change frequently and without notice.

You don't need to carry your original documents with you when you are traveling daily within the Hartford area.  We recommend carrying photocopies, or pictures on your phone, of your passport, visa stamp, and visa documents (Form I-20 or DS-2019) at all times.  If you have a Connecticut State ID or Driver's License this is also sufficient for local outings.
